Ottawa Central Walmart Supercentre Celebrates Grand Opening
OTTAWA, ON, May 5, 2016 /CNW/ - The new Ottawa Central Walmart Supercentre, a former Target store, located in Billings Bridge Plaza at 2277 Riverside Drive, will officially grand open to the community on Thursday, May 5. The 101,000 square foot store features an impressive assortment of fresh groceries, general merchandise, and convenient services available at Walmart's low prices every day. Local officials and media are invited to attend the grand opening at 7 a.m. Doors will open to the public at 8 a.m.
One-stop shopping
Walmart Supercentres were first introduced in Canada in 2006 and were built upon Walmart Canada's traditionally strong general merchandise selection of fashion, electronics, home and health and beauty. Customers will also enjoy the convenience of on-site services and licensees such as a full-service pharmacy, and photo centre. Today, supercentres are a Canadian-favourite format.
"It's been 10 years since we opened our first supercentres in Canada, and Canadians now recognize Walmart as a grocery destination," said Culbertson. "Carrying up to 120,000 products, our supercentres offer an impressive selection of merchandise and value for families, who appreciate and rely on Walmart's low prices every day and the convenience of one-stop shopping."
Grocery pickup
Shopping is more convenient for Ottawa residents with online grocery pickup. Customers can shop for groceries on walmart.ca and pick them up at the Billings Bridge store.
Commitment to local
Walmart Supercentres carry Canadian No. 1 grade fruits and vegetables such as Ontario-grown tomatoes, peppers and asparagus, and the goal is to carry all available seasonal local produce. Walmart Supercentres also carry an expanded selection of organic produce and a line of Canadian-certified organic products called Great Value Organic. Fresh meats include 100% Canadian Angus beef, chicken, pork, and salmon and all fresh groceries come with a 100% satisfaction, money back guarantee.
New jobs
Darin Culbertson is excited to lead the Billings Bridge Walmart Supercentre team as the store manager. Culbertson has worked in retail for more than two decades and at Walmart since 2013.
The store employs approximately 150 full- and part-time associates and received close to 1,000 job applications for the in-store positions. Applicants interested in careers at Walmart can apply at www.walmart.ca/careers.
Leader in sustainability
Whether we're challenging vendors to reduce packaging, eliminating waste in our stores, or showcasing environmentally preferable products for customers, we're committed more than ever to achieving zero waste. Walmart's Supercentre design features LED exterior signage, sandwich bales to divert waste from landfill sites, high efficiency coolers and freezers, to name just a few. As of May 16, the company will stop providing free plastic bags to customers in Ontario to promote the use of reusable bags and ultimately eliminate plastic film from landfill.
Community giving
To celebrate today's grand opening, Walmart will donate thousands of dollars to a number of local charities. Walmart Canada's extensive philanthropy program is focused on supporting Canadian families in need, and since 1994 Walmart has raised and donated $250 million to Canadian charities.
A big welcome
The celebration continues on Saturday, May 7 with a grand opening party. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., customers will enjoy fun family activities, live music, and samples.
