Runners, walkers and cyclists exceed St. Joe's Foundation's fundraising goal
HAMILTON, ON, May 2, 2017 /CNW/ - Through two of Hamilton's signature fundraising events – the Around the Bay Road Race (ATB) and Paris to Ancaster: A Ride for Research (P2A) – an outstanding community of fundraisers went the distance for St. Joe's by raising an unprecedented $610,410!
The fundraising campaign launched earlier this spring with a goal to raise $575,000 for St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. Since then, more than 1,200 fundraisers walked, ran or cycled while raising funds in support of exceptional patient care, innovative research, and to provide funding for world-class programs and services at St. Joe's.
"We're very proud of our fundraisers, are truly grateful for our partnership with ATB and P2A, and for the amazing generosity of individuals, teams, donors and sponsors," said Sera Filice-Armenio, president and CEO of St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation. "We set an ambitious goal but, yet again, we're in awe of our community's dedication to keeping St. Joe's at the forefront of innovative patient care and life-changing research."
Over the years, funds raised from ATB and P2A have supported research in areas like eye medicine, scleroderma, respirology, mental health and addiction, kidney and urology, robotic surgery, and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to name a few. Funds have also enabled the purchase of life-saving equipment such as a laser to treat retinal disease, maternal fetal monitors so new moms and babies are kept safe, and diagnostic equipment for use in the Boris Family Centre for Interventional Radiology & Oncology.
This year, a huge boost in ATB fundraising was thanks to the effort of two teams: Cacioppo's Community Champions powered by Deloitte, led by St. Joe's 2017 ATB Community Champion, Lu Cacioppo, and LiUNA Lending a Hand, led by Joseph Mancinelli. Together, they raised a remarkable $268,000!
On the P2A side, St. Joe's 2017 P2A Community Champions and 70k sponsors, Paul and Anthony Valeri of Valery Homes, raised more than $43,000!
"Whether it's delivering exceptional patient care today, or conducting vital research that leads to life-changing discoveries tomorrow, St. Joe's is committed to going the distance for the health of our community," said Ms. Filice-Armenio. "The funds raised through ATB and P2A demonstrate that our community is committed to going the distance for St. Joe's too."
In 2018, St. Joe's will once again be the exclusive charity partner for the Around the Bay Road Race on Sunday, March 25, 2018 and the Paris to Ancaster: A Ride for Research on Sunday, April 29, 2018.
