Outages due to the strong winds -1:00 p.m. update: Hydro-Québec has restored power to 85% of affected customers Français
MONTREAL, Jan. 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - As of 1:00 p.m., Hydro-Québec has restored service to 85% of clients who had lost power because of the strong winds that swept Québec and caused a number of outages. Early this morning, almost 100,000 customers were without power, mainly in the Montréal, Centre-du-Québec and Montérégie regions. More than 350 teams are hard at work to restore service as quickly as possible. Hydro-Québec wishes to thank affected customers for their patience and understanding.
Hydro-Québec has mobilized workers from across Québec to ramp up efforts in the areas that sustained the most damage to the network, with the goal of restoring service to all customers by midnight, given the forecasted temperatures. Longer delays in and around Granby, Victoriaville and Drummondville are attributable to equipment breakage, particularly poles.
The storm, with its strong winds, is moving towards eastern Québec, especially the Saguenay area. Hydro-Québec is carefully monitoring the situation in the area so that necessary measures can be taken quickly as needed.
