Own Your Everyday, Every Day with Inspiration from Television Celebrity and Entrepreneur Michele Romanow
Find out how Michele Romanow balances it all with her top five tips so you can too
TORONTO, May 8, 2018 /CNW/ - Getting caught up in the rush-rush of daily life? Try taking a short breather and learn from a master juggler some pro hacks to fit all your ambition and have time for more. Tech entrepreneur Michele Romanow, best known for being the youngest 'Dragon' on CBC's Dragons' Den, is a productivity whiz between running her own companies, consulting for others and being at her peak for making deals on television. California Almonds partnered with Romanow to learn her top tips for powering through her day and share these with others hustling through their own daily obstacles.
"I was very driven at a young age, always knowing I wanted to be an entrepreneur," Romanow said. "Since starting my first business while studying to be an Engineer at Queen's University, I've had great achievements but also had to overcome some failures. My advice is to just start now, understanding you have to start with something, it may take several iterations but eventually you'll see how to innovate toward success."
Depending on the day, Michele may start on a flight, in a boardroom, on set or in another city so nutritious snacks are essential to keep her focused. Her snack of choice is almonds. She always keeps almonds on hand because of their six grams of protein and four grams of fibre which provide her with the sustained energy she needs to juggle her schedule with finesse and success.
"Each day can get very demanding so I make sure that I have a healthy, nutritious option readily available to keep my energy up," Romanow said. "I have resealable bags of natural and flavoured almonds at home, in the office, in my drawer, in my handbag - everywhere! They are versatile and delicious, so grabbing a handful helps keep me going, especially when I have back to back calls and meetings."
Michele shares her tried and tested tips to own your day:
- Write out your to-do list: I start my day with my paper notebook and a 4x6 inch sticky note to write down the three most important things I have to do that day. I rank items that only I can do and that have the potential to really move the needle on my business (not tasks that I can delegate). I always start with the hardest task - once you've started with something hard, everything else feels easier. I also have the most amount of willpower in the morning, so I find it's the best time to tackle the challenging tasks.
- Be prepared: To help fuel the day, I keep healthy snacks at the office for myself and the staff to help keep hunger under control between meals. Almonds are my go-to snack as they're so satisfying and nutritious. I love that they're portable and not messy, so I also keep them in my purse all the time in case things get hectic and I don't have time to eat.
- Knock two-minute tasks out quickly: Email is a never-ending challenge; if it's a quick request or response that will take under two minutes to complete, I try to do it right at that moment on my phone and get it out of the way. I find if I don't do it then, it will slip through the cracks.
- Schedule time: For bigger requests and those on my sticky note of things to do in a day, I try and use the 25-minute Pomodoro Technique, where I turnover my phone and try to complete a few tasks without interruption.
- Make small decisions fast: I'm constantly bombarded with choices I need to make. I try to stick to making reversible decisions quickly (and then if I'm wrong about something - quickly retreat!). I take a longer time making irreversible decisions. It's remarkable how few decisions are truly irreversible, so this helps our team move quickly.
