Paragon International Wealth Management Highlights Green Diamonds' Upward Trend

TORONTO, March 17, 2017 /CNW/ - Paragon International Wealth Management, a leader in the acquisition and management of fancy colored diamonds, is reporting increased interest in rare green colored diamonds.

The heightened attention the exquisite diamonds are attracting comes on the heels of last year's sale of the "Aurora Green" diamond, a very rare 5.03-carat fancy vivid green diamond. The magnificent piece was sold at auction for a record-setting $16.8 million by Christie's at the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale in June last year.

Featuring a spectacular rectangular cut, the fancy colored diamond was considered the focal point of the jewel sale and, according to representatives at Christie's, the Aurora Green set a "world auction record for a green diamond and world record price per carat for a green diamond."

2016 proved to be an extremely good year for fancy green diamonds in particular. Before the Aurora Green brought in more than $3.1 million per carat, the previous record for a green diamond was set in May 2016. "The Ocean Dream", a 5.5-carat fancy vivid blue-green diamond, was sold for $8.6 million, or $1.5 million per carat.

In March of this year, Merlin Diamonds, a mining company operating in Australia, announced they had recovered five green diamonds at their Australian mining operation. Ranging in size from 1.4 carats to 0.21 carats, the fancy green diamonds are expected to bring in plenty of attention when they are vetted, certified and brought to market.

"The recovery of these green diamonds is highly encouraging and follows Merlin Diamonds' previous discovery of a rare blue diamond in December 2016, demonstrating the mine's potential for producing valuable colored diamonds," the company noted in a press release.

The rare and valuable colored diamonds were located at Merlin's Kaye pit, where the company has operated since 2004.  Aside from the many fancy green diamonds, the Merlin mine has also produced the largest diamond ever found in Australia, which weighed 104 carats.

According to reports from Merlin, they have also mined several other fancy green diamonds recently through their ongoing operation in Australia.
