Company Launches With Funding, Experienced Team and Acquires Notabli; To Build Technology For Parents
BURLINGTON, Vt., Feb. 17, 2015 /CNW/ -- Parent Co., formed in Summer 2014, builds technology for internet connected parents around the world, a market that is both massive and surprisingly underserved. After raising an initial seed round of $1.8 Million from private investment, the company acquired Notabli (www.notabli.com). The mobile-first app, which just launched on desktop today, allows parents to save, organize, and share their kids' most memorable moments (photos, video, audio, quotes and notes) with those who care most.
"Right now there's a ton of attention on games and other kid apps, but there's just a wide open opportunity for innovation when it comes to parents. That's why we started Parent Co.," said Tom O'Leary, Parent Co.'s CEO. "Notabli was an easy choice to be our first product. It has all the familiar elements of social media. It's networked; you invite people, you share things, heart stuff, comment. So it doesn't require any real behavior change but the end result is different because parents have built an amazing archive of their kids best moments. This really sums up our mission: to empower parents to curate this new digital world for their kids."
O'Leary, who leads the team at Parent Co., has significant experience building vertical-specific software companies through his work at Tesla Motors (TSLA), eBay (EBAY) and Dealer.com (acquired in 2014 by TRAK). As a father of four, a former teacher and coach, he also understands the pain points of modern parenthood and has long envisioned a technology startup focused on families and education.
Notabli is designed specifically around kid accounts (parents post to their kid's account) and focused on authentically documenting childhood through the eyes of the parents. Originally designed for iOS, Parent Co.'s backing has helped Notabli expand to the web with a big and bold desktop version available now at www.notabli.com. Notabli on the web gives users more real estate and freedom to create beautiful archives of their children's moments while easily managing their private network.
Jackson Latka, Head of Product for Parent Co., came up with the idea for Notabli after becoming a parent himself and realizing that he had a great amount of valuable content and no place to easily organize and share with close family and friends.
"On the surface, Notabli is a way to share your kids' moments with the people who actually want to see them. But below the surface it's a powerful archive of the most important time of life," said Latka. "So instead of selfies, status updates, and pictures of last night's dinner, parents save moments in their children's lives that they want remembered. Ultimately, Notabli is the first step towards making something that parents can pass on to their children."
