MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament (Mississauga-Brampton South), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Carassauga Festival.
"The Carassauga Festival celebrates our community and provides an opportunity for local children and artists to showcase their talent," said Parliamentary Secretary Adams. "I congratulate Carassauga Festival for providing this unifying event reflecting the spirit of our vibrant community, and I look forward to visiting the remarkable pavilions!''
Funding will support the annual Carassauga Festival of Cultures, which will take place in late May 2014 in Mississauga. The festival includes multicultural music, dance, theatre, and art presentations by local artists and artisans.
"Our Government is proud to support local festivals that engage the community through arts and culture and also stimulate the local economy," said Minister Glover. "I applaud the organizers of the Carassauga Festival for celebrating Canada's diversity and bringing unique cultural experiences to Canadians."
"The funding received from the Department of Canadian Heritage allows Carassauga Festival to showcase and therefore support more local artists, artisans, and performers every year," said Linda Siutra, Executive Director, Carassauga Festival. "I am proud that the festival is growing every year and it has become a tradition for our community."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $55,600 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
