Parliamentary Secretary Rudd Delivers Remarks at Energy Council of Canada Annual Conference

OTTAWA, Feb. 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Parliamentary Secretary Kim Rudd, on behalf of the Honourable Jim Carr, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today delivered opening remarks at the Energy Council of Canada's annual conference, 2016 Canadian Energy Industry: Updates and Insights, in Ottawa.

Parliamentary Secretary Rudd discussed challenges currently facing the oil and gas sector, such as lower oil prices, while focusing on the Government's vision: ensuring that the Canada's energy sector remains a source of jobs, prosperity and opportunity while transitioning to a lower carbon economy.

The Parliamentary Secretary highlighted the Government's commitment to collaborating with Indigenous communities, provinces, territories and industry to build a more resilient and sustainable energy sector. She also reiterated that the Government of Canada has introduced an interim approach with five principles to guide major resource projects as the first part of a broader strategy to review and restore confidence in Canada's environmental assessment processes.
