International resort destination ushers in new entertainment era in British Columbia
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 10, 2017 /CNW/ -- The word is out: Parq Vancouver is the place to be. The opening weekend festivities are stretching into a full week of celebration and exploration, and with the Harvest Moon offering a show to visitors on the sixth-floor outdoor Parq, visitors are quickly discovering the wonders of British Columbia's newest hospitality and entertainment destination.
Parq Vancouver opened its doors to the public at 11 p.m. PDT on Friday, September 29, following a press conference hosted by President Joe Brunini, in which dignitaries and executives praised the work of thousands who helped bring the property to life. Hours later, invited guests arrived for a "first-look" party, where they were treated to a Coldplay concert at neighbouring BC Place, snapped photographs of the resort's impressive art collection, including its outdoor freestanding public art sculpture, Slow, by contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Huan, and experienced their first tastes of the resort's culinary lineup.
With an eye toward delivering impeccable service to guests, Parq Vancouver now prepares for its first major event by hosting attendees of the David Foster Foundation 30th Anniversary Miracle Gala at Rogers Arena on October 21. Parq Vancouver, JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the DOUGLAS are presenting sponsors of the three-day event benefiting Canadian families with children in need of life-saving transplants.
The largest private development in British Columbia, Parq Vancouver delivers everything in one place. The JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, features 281 rooms and 48 luxury suites with luxurious interiors designed by Ontario-based Studio Munge, as well as Canada's first Spa by JW. Its sister hotel, the DOUGLAS, pays homage to Vancouver's stunning natural environment, offering 178 rooms and 10 suites that pair original touch points by Rob Wells of SixteenFifty Creative Intelligence with thoughtful interiors by Vincent Celano of Celano Design Studio. Reservations are available at both hotels from October 23.
Both hotels lead visitors to Parq Vancouver's signature attraction, a 30,000 square foot, sixth floor outdoor park featuring more than 200 native pines and 15,000 local plants. Dubbed The Parq, this one-of-a-kind, communal experience offers Instagram-worthy views of the city and surrounding mountains while reconnecting visitors and guests to the wondrous nature that defines British Columbia. At the same time, this elevated green space offsets Parq's carbon footprint, replenishing oxygen and literally breathing back into the city.
Parq Vancouver aims to create an entertainment experience unrivaled in British Columbia with its 72,000-square foot casino, located on the second and third floors of the resort, with games that appeal to players of every skill level. The ringing of jackpots has been heard on the casino floor since opening night, as players celebrated the evening's first wins and sipped drinks at the Centre Bar. One level above, visitors are discovering the inspired tastes and variety of teas at Lotus Whiskey & Tea Lounge, while others experience the thrills of Parq Vancouver's high limit tables and 11 private salons, four of which feature balconies with views of the city's skyline.
Parq Vancouver also supports the city's global reputation as a coveted meetings destination, with more than 60,000 square feet of multifunctional meeting and event space. Planners and delegates benefit from 13 elegant ballrooms, boardrooms and meeting spaces, all of which are conveniently located on the resort's fourth floor. The 15,604-square-foot, state-of-the-art Parq Grand Ballroom – the largest hotel ballroom in Vancouver – will strengthen the city's ability to attract large-scale events, including weddings, congresses and high-profile corporate meetings.
The eight restaurants and lounges conceived by Blau + Associates take inspiration from regional and provincial cuisines, as well as the individual travels of Blau and Canteenwalla. The culinary lineup has left visitors debating their favorite: the classic "comfort" foods of BC Kitchen, the immersive MRKT EAST menu featuring Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, Chinese fine dining cuisine at 1886, or Canada's first Honey Salt, celebrating the bounty of British Columbia with locally sourced ingredients and craft beers on tap.
Constructed to meet Gold LEED environmental standards, aligned with the City of Vancouver's Greenest City 2020 Action Plan, Parq Vancouver impresses with its limitless connections to the surrounding city. From the 25-foot replica Douglas fir in the DOUGLAS lobby to the 17th floor outdoor yoga space at Spa by JW, every experience is both unique to Vancouver and uniquely Vancouver.
