Additive technology to be part of The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation
TORONTO, Oct. 24, 2018 /CNW/ - Humber College and Cimetrix Solutions, a division of Javelin Technologies, are entering into a five-year partnership agreement designed to give students a strong understanding of the latest applications of additive manufacturing (advanced industrial 3D printing).
Cimetrix will make a significant contribution towards student preparedness with a donation of $50,000 – $10,000 to be awarded each year for five years to a student demonstrating a proven understanding of advanced manufacturing and automation applications related to Industry 4.0 practices.
Cimetrix will be the lead partner for additive manufacturing in Humber's Advanced Manufacturing Skills Consortium. It is comprised of industry partners working with the college to train students and employees of Canadian companies within the new Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (Barrett CTI). The consortium will integrate new learning pathways and opportunities for students, faculty, and industry experts to work together on the latest technology to solve real-world business challenges.
"The Barrett CTI is designed to be home to next generation education, complete with new and emerging technologies that cannot be found on other postsecondary campuses," says Dr. Chris Whitaker, president and CEO, Humber College. "Partnering with Cimetrix will bring expertise and understanding pertaining to the latest additive manufacturing applications to our students and applied research partners and provide opportunities for collaboration that are key to Humber's polytechnic model of education."
In addition to the Cimetrix Additive Manufacturing scholarship, the partnership will also include:
- An initial additive manufacturing equipment donation of $300,000;
- Cimetrix equipping Humber with the latest additive manufacturing technology to support the activities in the CTI;
- Industry specific forums, hosted by Cimetrix, to enhance awareness of Industry 4.0 additive manufacturing applications;
- Cimetrix and Humber will collaborate on outreach activities to support education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM);
- Cimetrix will work with Humber to develop pathways for students and graduates by actively providing recruitment opportunities.
"The specialized world of additive manufacturing has globalized, and we need to work together to identify new ways to use additive manufacturing to improve productivity to benefit industry," said James Janeteas, President, Cimetrix. "Cimetrix approaches innovation through collaboration. We look forward to working with all the Barrett CTI partners to create opportunities for students, faculty and other industry leaders to establish a Centre of Excellence in additive manufacturing, automation and learning systems at Humber."
