The Night for Rights After Party is one of Toronto's most popular events. It brings together Canada's leading media, arts and political communities for an unforgettable night in support of ground-breaking human rights journalism.
Proceeds from the evening will go to support JHR's work in Northern Canada, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Middle East and South Africa. This work ensures local reporters in the world's most difficult regions can tell stories that change lives – for the better.
This year's event includes live performances by Midnight Shine of Northern Ontario (the best band on the James Bay Coast!), DJ Matt Blair, and the in-house Newzapalooza Band from Postmedia and Rogers Publishing, Conrad Black Sabbath!
Beyond this, guests will enjoy access to an open bar that includes wine sponsored by the Wine Council of Ontario and beer provided by Steam Whistle Brewery.
JHR is delighted to have Nana Aba Duncan, producer and host at CBC Radio 2, as the emcee for this year's party. Previously Nana Aba worked as JHR's Ghana country director and reported for the Ghanaian Broadcasting Corporation.
