MONTREAL, June 15, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Jean Doré, 39th mayor of Montreal, has passed away today surrounded by his loved ones, after battling pancreatic cancer since last fall. He was 70.
A lawyer, Mr. Doré, who was a founding member and leader of Rassemblement des citoyens et citoyennes de Montréal before becoming mayor of Montreal from 1986 to 1994, will be missed by his wife Christiane Sauvé, his daughters Amélie and Magalie, their partners and two grandchildren. The City of Montreal will soon announce with the family how they will commemorate his passing.
Citizens and friends looking to honour his memory can make a donation to the Jean Doré Research Fund of the Cancer Research Society at www.jeandorefund.ca. Created in collaboration with Mr. Doré, this fund seeks to support researchers fighting pancreatic cancer in order to prevent, detect and cure one of the nation's most devastating types of cancer – one with a survival rate of just over 8%.
