Patients Willing To Share Their Medical Cannabis Use With Family And Friends, But Not Employers
Results from women's patient support network survey launched at Medical Cannabis Week
TORONTO, MAY 22, 2018 /CNW/ - Canada's inaugural Medical Cannabis Week, presented by Business of Cannabis, opens today with the release of a patient survey conducted among SheCann members – the largest women-focused, medical cannabis support network in Canada.
"As part of Medical Cannabis Week we wanted to survey our members to get a picture of what our community was thinking," said Ashleigh Brown, founder of SheCann. "The results show that the majority of our members are satisfied with their medical cannabis journey, but that stigma still remains a challenge for them."
The results from this survey show that while over 90 per cent of participants discuss medical cannabis use with friends and family, only 27 per cent are willing to share this information with their employer. Of the 63 per cent that are not currently discussing their medical cannabis use with their employer, 80 per cent stated that they are not willing to share this information in the future.
"One of our key objectives in launching Medical Cannabis Week was to showcase the patient perspective," said Reva Seth, co-founder and CEO of Business of Cannabis. "The SheCann community provided incredible insight into how patients view the medical cannabis landscape, specifically how it relates to social norms and stigma."
Medical Cannabis Week is presented by Business of Cannabis in partnership with: Ample Organics, Cannvas MedTech, Blakes, Cassels & Graydon LLP, Dentons, Dosist, Emblem, GrowWise Health, HealthTO, Leaf Forward, RNMKR PR, Salesforce, SheCann, Strainprint Technologies Ltd., TechTO and WeedMD.
The week-long event kicks off Tuesday, May 22 with a breakfast titled "The Future for Patients + Practitioners." The event is sponsored by Emblem, GrowWise Health and Strainprint and will take place at tech-giant Salesforce's Toronto headquarters.
Medical Cannabis Week events will be hosted at locations across Toronto on May 22, 23 and 24 and all materials will be available digitally. To learn more about the events and to find the full SheCann survey results, please visit medicalcannabisweek.com.
