Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects which, like the project of the Municipality of Lac-des-Aigles, contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions in the country.
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that the Municipality of Lac-des-Aigles (website in French only) would receive $58,253 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to renovate the Pavillon du lac community centre.
Located in the Témiscouata regional county municipality (RCM), the Municipality of Lac-des-Aigles is home to the Pavillon du lac, a 4,000-square-foot community centre built in 1987. Committees, organizations and residents hold a number of activities at the centre, including brunches, dinners, tournaments, weddings, meetings and family gatherings.
Funding awarded under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will be used to renovate the building to ensure it remains in good condition, as it has become necessary to replace the roofing and windows. The renovations will also include flooring and electrical work and building a veranda at the entrance, which will make the Pavillon du lac safer, more energy efficient and better adapted to users' needs.
Quotes
"The Government of Canada supports projects by organizations which, like the project of the Municipality of Lac-des-Aigles, mobilize and unite our communities, but also, in general, stimulate economic activity in the country. Community and recreational infrastructure like the Pavillon du lac are perfect examples of gathering and meeting places. Today, as it was 150 years ago, openness helps build strong communities. It is in places like these that we can better explore our differences and more fully appreciate the many cultures that give life to our country."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
