Peel Mutual Insurance Company to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Peel Mutual Insurance Company will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
When Caledon Fire and Emergency Services decided to invest in a fire and life safety house, they knew they would require financial assistance to make this dream a reality. Their fundraising efforts led them to the Peel Mutual Insurance Company, which generously donated $27,000 - the balance of funds required. In addition, the board of directors of Peel Mutual Insurance Company indicated they would like to continue their support by contributing to the maintenance of the fire safety house on an annual basis.
Since Caledon Fire and Emergency Services took delivery of the fire and life safety house in July 2012, it has been featured at eight separate community events, reaching all age groups from kids to seniors. Letters have been distributed to all Caledon schools offering educational tours of the fire safety house and, to date six schools have requested a visit. In addition to the school visits, Caledon fire anticipates the house will be featured at about half of their 60 annual community events.
"Many fire departments throughout Ontario have realized the benefits of having a mobile fire and life safety house, in which children and adults can learn about fire safety in a realistic setting," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "Thanks to the generous donation of Peel Mutual Insurance Company, Caledon Fire and Emergency Services has an exciting new tool with which to deliver important fire safety messages throughout their community."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Electrical Safety Authority, CSA Group, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Roxul Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada.
