CHARLOTTETOWN, July 10, 2014 /CNW/ - The PEI 2014 Celebration Zone will host the province of Alberta, a partner of the PEI 2014 celebrations, during Alberta Week July 14 to 20. Alberta's vibrant culture and exceptional performing arts community will be showcased throughout the week at the free, family-friendly Celebration Zone. The week will include a performance by platinum-selling country star, Paul Brandt.
"We're thrilled to be participating in the PEI 2014 celebrations to showcase the incredible diversity of our province's culture," said Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Alberta Culture. "Culture is what helps define us as a province and makes us such an attractive place to live, work and visit. From performances by established and emerging artists to heritage demonstrations and culinary treats -- Alberta Week will help paint a picture of who we are and provide a sampling of all that our province has to offer."
Alberta Week will also be one of the most eye-catching weeks of the summer in the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone Canada Pavilion. A spectacular dinosaur exhibit from Alberta's Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology will feature full skeletons of a Dromaeosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus, as well as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Albertosaurus skulls.

Alberta Week will also highlight performances by award-winning country singer, Bobby Wills; world-champion Aboriginal hoop dancer and musician, Dallas Arcand; comedic improv duo, Atomic Improv; book readings by acclaimed author, Marty Chan; an Aboriginal womens a cappella group, Asani; comedic magician, Sheldon Casavant; Celtic folk singer, Maria Dunn; blues musician, Kat Danser; award- winning folk singer, John Wort Hannam; acclaimed gypsy-jazz group, Hot Club Edmonton; and innovative opera company, Cowtown Opera Company. Visitors to the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone can enjoy excellent Alberta food products featuring barley, canola and bison and top-notch cuisine throughout the week at the Fathers Pub and Oyster Bar.
The PEI 2014 Celebration Zone is a free, 70-day cultural festival running between July 1 and September 7. Located at Confederation Landing on the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront, the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone will be a hub of family-friendly celebratory activity all summer long.
In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference that led the way to the creation of Canada. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the sesquicentennial celebrations. The PEI 2014 celebrations are made possible through generous support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Charlottetown. The year-long and province-wide PEI 2014 program of events will honour the past, celebrate the present and plan a bold tomorrow.
