CALGARY, Nov. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - Pembina Pipeline Corporation (TSX: PPL; NYSE: PBA) is taking a leadership role in providing funding for conservation education programming at the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area through a generous ten-year contribution totaling $250,000.
The Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area (ASCCA) is a 4800-acre day use natural area located just southwest of Calgary, Alberta. Since 1996, the Cross Conservation Area has hosted over 100,000 education participants, with approximately 5000 education participants in the last year.
The Conservation Education Programs for youth include onsite and outreach programs for school students, programs for organized youth group participants and summer day camp participants. These programs are designed to expand knowledge, awareness and appreciation of the natural world and conservation issues and to create the capacity for students/youth to connect to nature in their own communities following their experiences with these programs.
Dallas L. Droppo, Q.C., Chair of the ASCCA Board of Directors said, "We are very pleased that Pembina has donated the funds necessary to ensure that our environmental education programs are able to continue providing an introduction to environmental stewardship for students from Calgary and surrounding areas long into the future. This funding, together with support from other donors, will ensure the leaders of tomorrow will have an understanding of the importance of maintaining natural areas in an increasingly urban landscape."
Pembina supports non-profit and charitable organizations that are based in, or support, the communities where they operate. Pembina's investments focus on organizations that improve access to education, protect or preserve the environment, and promote culture and wellness. Pembina is committed to ensuring its pipelines and facilities are designed, constructed and operated in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Pembina's pipeline systems and related facilities are designed to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and Pembina has a long-standing commitment to best practices in environmental management.
According to Bob Michaleski, Pembina's Chief Executive Officer, "Pembina's commitment to the environment is reflected by the very high standards we set for ourselves to operate our facilities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and it is also reflected in our commitment to environmental organizations that protect our environment, and those that provide our students and youth with knowledge and experiences that help them become stewards of our environment."
