Pennzoil and March of Dimes Canada to Retrofit a Vehicle for Someone in Need
HALIFAX, Aug. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - Pennzoil has partnered with March of Dimes Canada, a charity that provides programs and services to children and adults with disabilities, and has donated $65,000, $15,000 of which will be to retrofit a vehicle. Pennzoil's support will help a selected family or individual living with disabilities in Nova Scotia to reclaim their freedom and love of driving.
Vehicle modifications allow people living with disabilities the freedom of mobility, access and community participation that so many of us take for granted - but they can be prohibitively expensive, and out of reach for those with limited or fixed incomes. The funding from Pennzoil and March of Dimes Canada will be given to an individual or family who desperately need a modified vehicle, but cannot afford it on their own. Eligible applicants must be residents of Nova Scotia, with a physical disability from an accident or illness that impedes mobility and substantially restricts activities of daily living and participation in the community.
"We are very excited to support a local individual or family living with a disability acquire a retrofitted vehicle that will make their life a little easier," says Mary Lynne Stewart, Director of Fund Development and Communications for March of Dimes Canada. "We are so grateful to Pennzoil for providing this very generous donation."
A modified vehicle will have a life-changing impact on the selected recipient, removing or minimizing a life safety risk. It will provide them with transportation so they can receive necessary medical treatment, potentially help maintain or obtain full employment, or offer the chance to pursue their education and improve access to the community.
"Freedom is a sentiment closely associated with the ability to drive an automobile. Yet, this freedom can be taken away if one has disabilities and cannot drive a standard automobile. Pennzoil supports organizations like March of Dimes Canada, which are dedicated to helping people with disabilities regain mobility and freedom," says Bree Sandlin, Pennzoil Global Brand Manager.
