MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 16, 2016 /CNW/ - PepsiCo Foods Canada today announced a voluntary recall of a small quantity (656 bags) of Tostitos® Cantina™ Extra Thin tortilla chips packages that were inadvertently filled with Tostitos® Cantina™ Chipotle Thins flavoured tortilla chips. Tostitos® Cantina™ Chipotle Thins flavoured tortilla chips contain a milk-based ingredient that would not be declared on the Tostitos® Cantina™ Extra Thin package. Although there have been no reported illnesses, PepsiCo Foods Canada is initiating the voluntary recall in Western Canada and Ontario out of an abundance of caution.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk should not consume the affected product.
The only impacted product is 220 gram bags of Tostitos® Cantina™ Extra Thin tortilla chips (UPC: 6041001082) with a "Guaranteed Fresh" Date of OC 18 and manufacturing codes of 505122506 and 505222506. Consumers can find the "Guaranteed Fresh" date and manufacturing code on the front of the package, and the UPC code on the back.
Impacted product is limited to 656 bags distributed in Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB, NWT) and Ontario to grocery retailers across those provinces. No impacted products were shipped to Quebec, Atlantic Canada or the United States.
No other Tostitos® brand products are included in this recall and no other "Guaranteed Fresh" dates for Tostitos® Cantina™ Extra Thin tortilla chips are included in this recall. The company is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to coordinate the recall.
Consumers who have purchased the above product are urged to dispose of or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. They can also direct any questions to 1-800-376-2257 or find more information at www.tostitos.ca.
