Petcurean Acts to Support Pets Affected by Northern B.C. Wildfires
Petcurean donates 1,000 lbs of food for dogs and cats affected by fires in the Burns Lake area.
CHILLIWACK, BC, Sept. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Responding to calls for food and pet supplies from local shelters and firefighters battling fires in Northern BC, Chilliwack-based pet food manufacturer Petcurean, is donating 1,000 lbs of food to help cats and dogs stranded in Burns Lake and the surrounding area.
This donation will support organizations, such as the Lakes Animal Friendship Society, who now need food donations to feed animals left behind when people were forced to evacuate quickly. With food scarce, it's also been reported that firefighters are purchasing food themselves to feed the stranded pets. Petcurean is now working with its distributors to get food to the region as fast as possible.
"Petcurean believes in giving back to our communities and helping to support these animals because we know it's the right thing to do, especially in desperate situations like the Northern BC wildfires," said Christine Mallier, PR & Community Relations Manager at Petcurean. "Our company was founded on the principle of putting pets first, and it's important that we do our part to help care for these animals until they are reunited with the rest of their families."
"The donation of high quality Canadian pet food from Petcurean is a huge help to our animals and families impacted by the wildfires," explained Alistair Schroff, forester and co-founder of Lakes Animal Friendship Society. "We could not have met the needs without donations like the one Petcurean is making. The effects of this disaster will ripple into the coming weeks, months and years. We are grateful to everyone who remembers this and offers support going forward."
As part of its commitment to pets, Petcurean is a good community steward. In August, the company donated 3,000 pounds of pet food to Care Animal Hospital, Tails of Rescue and ResQ Animal Coalition to support the hundreds of dogs and cats affected by the Carr Fire, which has viciously destroyed more than 211,000 acres and more than 1,500 structures in Northern California. In June, the company also made a significant donation of 3,000lbs of food to help animals affected by the Northern Manitoba. In 2017, Petcurean made 243 donations, for a total donation of 31,820lbs of food.
In addition to natural disaster food donations, other examples of Petcurean's devotion to pets includes social media campaigns like its recent Uplift the Underdogs contest which highlighted rescue groups and hard to place dogs in need of adoption, and donating to rescues or shelters who have a specific need. To date, 5 of the 8 rescue dogs in this campaign have been adopted and found loving homes.
