Lenczner Slaght's managing partner becomes the 45th President of the premier Canadian organization dedicated to "promoting excellence in advocacy."
TORONTO, June 7, 2012 /CNW/ - On June 6, during a black-tie evening at the Toronto Convention Centre, Peter Griffin was formally introduced as the new President of The Advocates' Society. He joins a long list respected Canadian lawyers who have held the prestigious post - including his Lenczner Slaght colleague (and fellow founding partner) Ronald Slaght, who served as President in 2000-2001.
Peter officially began his one-year executive term at the Society's annual End of Term Dinner. He was welcomed into the role, before an enthusiastic crowd of about 1,400 that included many prominent members of the Canadian legal community.
"It's an honour to lead such an organization that plays such an important role in advancing the practice of advocacy in Ontario and increasingly across Canada," Peter commented after the event. "The Advocates' Society is the premier organization for litigators in Ontario. All of our firm's lawyers are members and many actively teach in the Society's education programs. In taking on this role, I am gratified by the support of my Lenczner Slaght colleagues and look forward to contributing on behalf of the profession."
Founded in 1965 - under the inaugural presidency of legendary lawyer J.J. Robinette - The Advocates' Society promotes the importance of effective advocacy to clients, to the courts and to the pursuit of justice generally. The organization takes an active interest in all issues affecting Canadian litigators, focusing in particular on skills development and the sharing of information and ideas.
"One of the core strengths of the Society is its encouragement of education and mentoring," Peter Griffin explained. "For lawyers building their careers, our programs and events provide extraordinary opportunities to gain insights and training from leading litigators and members of the judiciary. I look forward to advancing the goals of the Society in the coming year."
