HALIFAX, June 22 /CNW/ - As a result of a successful fundraising campaign, PharmaChoice community pharmacies have presented a cheque for $45,167 to the Canadian Red Cross for Haiti Earthquake Relief.
The "Rebuilding Haiti" program, as it was called, saw PharmaChoice customers purchase paper cinder blocks for $1 (or more), write their name on it and display it in the windows of their local PharmaChoice for the community to see. Additionally, all PharmaChoice owners donated a percentage of their OPTION+ private label product sales. Corporately, PharmaChoice Head Office matched all donations.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the results" states Calvin LeRoux, CEO of PharmaChoice. "Our independent pharmacy owners really came together to help out with such a devastating catastrophe." LeRoux adds, "We knew Canadians would continue to give graciously and decided to focus our efforts on rebuilding Haiti."
PharmaChoice pharmacy owners really motivated their staff to get behind this effort and directed many local fundraising efforts to the Red Cross.
"Even as we continue to provide emergency medical and other relief in Haiti, great strides are being made toward our ultimate objective, which is to rebuild lives and communities devastated by January's earthquake," said John L. Byrne, Director General for Atlantic Canada with the Canadian Red Cross. "So PharmaChoice picked exactly the right theme for its campaign and we can pledge to its customers, owners and management that their generous donations will be used wisely in that effort."
Based in Dartmouth, NS, PharmaChoice is a member-owned co-operative with over 275 locations nationally and 84 in Atlantic Canada.
