HALIFAX, March 7, 2016 /CNW/ - PharmaChoice announced today that it has surpassed the significant milestone of 600 locations, making it Canada's second-largest independent pharmacy banner.
Founded in 1999 by PharmaChoice East CEO Calvin LeRoux and a group of key owners, the banner has nearly doubled its store count in the past five years.
"PharmaChoice is proud to have earned a leadership position in our country's crowded pharmacy landscape," says LeRoux. "We are confident that PharmaChoice is the program that provides independents with the best return on their investment, and we believe our rapid growth is proof of that."
PharmaChoice West CEO Grady Brown states that PharmaChoice's recipe for success lies in blending its proven financial model with operational flexibility and comprehensive program support.
"If a member is looking for true independence, ultimate flexibility and a solid support system, look no further," says Brown. "We truly respect our owners' entrepreneurial spirits while offering them the comprehensive set of tools required to remain competitive in today's marketplace."
LeRoux and Brown consider PharmaChoice to be a champion of independent pharmacy and are proud of the role the banner plays in both local job creation and in providing accessible healthcare to Canadians.
"Even in 2016, the pharmacy remains a pillar in many rural communities," says Brown. "Our locations, especially in more remote settings, provide job creation and access to services that residents may not have otherwise."
LeRoux adds that the role of the community pharmacist is more important today than ever before.
"Canada's aging population coupled with our shortage of physicians and immense wait times positions pharmacists as vital practitioners who are the frontline for patients when they are sick or in pain."
When looking to the future, LeRoux and Brown anticipate the industry's trend toward consolidation will be good news for the banner.
"As we continue to see more pharmacy reform, we believe the unaffiliated will need to find a home," says LeRoux. "So long as pharmacy owners are seeking transparency and maximum value, we are confident that we will continue to grow."
