Phase 2 of the Paving BLITZ on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge from Saturday, July 28 to Monday, July 30 Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, July 26, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is reminding road users that Phase 2 of the paving blitz on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will resume from Saturday, July 28 at 2 AM to Monday, July 30 at 8 AM. The goal is to complete this major road work before the end of the construction holidays in order to take advantage of the lighter traffic on the road network.
One lane will remain open in each direction during this period. Because this roadwork depends on the weather, we invite you to visit our blog regularly (www.jacquescartierbridge.ca) to ensure that the work is not rescheduled or postponed due to rain.
PJCCI is also reminding motorists that the fireworks at La Ronde will take place on Friday, July 27. As usual, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be open to pedestrians so they can watch the fireworks. From 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will therefore be completely closed to traffic. The paving work will then start afterwards at 2 AM.
The Metro (yellow line), buses, bikes or carpooling are excellent options for avoiding traffic during the roadwork, mainly during the Monday morning rush hour. The bridge's bike path will also be open during the road work and remains an excellent option. The Champlain, Victoria and Honoré-Mercier Bridges and the Louis-Hyppolite-La Fontaine Tunnel are also possible options for this weekend.
The first half of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge has been repaved over the last several days. With the second phase of the work, which will start this weekend, 5 traffic lanes of 2.5 km each will have been repaved in less than 6 days. In total, nearly 4,800 tons of asphalt will have been placed on the bridge over an area of 52,000 square feet. In order to achieve such a challenge, over a hundred workers have been working day and night on the bridge during the two work blitzes.
