WEMBLEY, AB, April 14, 2016 /CNW/ - The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum received the Outstanding Achievement Award (Science/Exhibition), conferred by the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) at a ceremony held at the Pier 21: National Immigration Museum on April 13, 2016.
The Jury was unanimous in recognizing the unique exhibit experience at Canada's newest museum that opened its doors in early September 2015 and subsequently hit unprecedented attendance in the last 8 months.
"The museum is an asset to Canada and to the world of science," said Tim Powell, Board Chair of the River of Death and Discovery Society that oversees the museum.
The CMA endorsed the national significance of this museum and noted that the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum far exceeded the current standard of practice by going beyond the conventional. Appreciating the work done by the founding President & CEO of the museum, George Jacob, the Executive Director of the CMA John McAvity stated that this is indeed a well-deserved honour.
"It is humbling to receive this honour and recognition from peers on the CMA jury. Museums are souls of civil societies and I will continue to dedicate my life into creating institutions that inspire and stand the test of time," says George Jacob.
The museum made headlines by unveiling the fastest museum project executed in Canadian history under the leadership of veteran museum professional George Jacob, known around the world for his ability to envision path-breaking museum initiatives.
The museum uses augmented reality platforms and fractal screens to bring to life animated dinosaurs placed in interactive ecosystems akin to "chase" scene coursing through galleries that descend into the earth, representing a 360 million year journey. The educational programs, special evening events and outstanding National Geographic films continue to draw visitors from far and wide. The museum is strategically located next to one of the densest dinosaur bone beds in the world, where there are many discoveries yet to be made.
