MONTREAL, April 28, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - World-renowned designer Philippe Starck is in Montreal today to mark the launch of construction of YOO Montreal Inspired by Starck. The celebrated creator is visiting the city for a few days and will turn the sod at the site of the new YOO Montreal vertical village.
Starck and Montreal
Philippe Starck has designed the building shell, lobby, blueprints and layout of the YOO Montreal project, whose sales and construction have been entrusted to Constructions Chapam, a Montreal firm headed by Maxime Lachance. "Montreal is an extremely unique city. I don't believe there is a place like it anywhere else in the world," says Starck. "And Griffintown in particular is extraordinary in both its birth and rebirth. YOO Montreal is very important to me because YOO and Montreal are very important to me."
The YOO Montreal vertical village
YOO's founders have created a vertical village concept, which they say will be a true community, drawing like-minded residents who share the same lifestyle and aspirations. In keeping with this concept, YOO Montreal will offer a number of common spaces designed to encourage gathering and conversation. Starck describes his vertical village as "a place that contributes to the harmony of the people who make it their home. It's based on the principle that in sharing a living space, we feel more complete and we create synergies."
YOO Montreal is helping redefine Griffintown. A residential district in the 1800s, it would later become the cradle of industry in Montreal. "Over the past few years, Griffintown has been gradually transforming back into a residential area, but it has preserved traces of its industrial history," states Maxime Lachance, President of Constructions Chapam. "The materials chosen to create YOO Montreal, located at the corner of Ottawa and Young Streets and comprising 84 units, will evoke the past while being adapted to the present and designed for the long term."
YOO Montreal promises a living experience that is beyond compare. With its fresh approach to property design and offering units of up to 6,000 ft2 with unrivalled views of downtown Montreal, it will be home to those who love design, contemporary art and history. The building's pool, hot tub, fireplace-adorned terraces, and state-of-the-art fitness centre are just a few of the amenities that will enchant those with an eye for innovation and a desire to relax and be entertained. A restaurant, which will additionally offer room service to the building's occupants, will also be part of the development.
