ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE AUSTRALIAN SECURITIES EXCHANGE AND TORONTO STOCK EXCHANGE
PERTH, Western Australia, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - The Philippines was the big winner in the updated annual survey, published by the Fraser Institute, of global metals and mining companies, with its ranking climbing to 35th spot in the most recent updated survey, up from 49th in the 2009/10 survey.
The average rank of the Australian states fell to 31 out of 51 jurisdictions in the update, down from 18 in the 2009/2010 index, due largely to the proposed introduction of the RSPT.
The bottom 10 jurisdictions included Colorado, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
Since 1997, the well respected independent Canadian research and educational organisation, the Fraser Institute has conducted an annual survey of metal mining companies to assess how mineral endowments and public policy factors affect mining and exploration investment. Survey results represent the opinions of mining executives operating around the world. The Policy Potential Index is a composite index of the 11 policy areas examined in the update survey. Fifty-one jurisdictions were included in this update.
The Fraser Institute has recently released the 2010 mid year update of their survey of global mining Companies.
Miners judged that attitudes towards the mining industry had become more hostile in 41 of the 51 jurisdictions examined in the survey.
The Philippines was the big winner in the update, with its ranking climbing from 49th in the 2009/10 survey to 35th spot in the most recent updated survey.
