Community raises $5,000 for students to spend rejuvenating their library
TORONTO, Nov. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation is pleased to host more than 60 students from Hyde Park Elementary School at Chapters Thunder Bay, as they spend more than $5,000 on new books for their library. As part of the annual Adopt a School program, Chapters Thunder Bay raised funds from local community donations over a three week period to help revitalize the school's library.
Students from Hyde Park Elementary School will arrive by bus at Chapters Thunder Bay and be greeted by a receiving line of Chapters employees. Over the next hour, students will shop for their favourite books which will be added to their library, replacing some titles that are almost 20 years old.
"Our school community has families that LOVE to read!" Says Shannon Jessiman-MacArthur, Principal, Hyde Park Elementary. "We want our kids to develop a love of reading and literacy both at school and at home! We try hard to give them many rich literacy experiences every day!"

About the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation
Indigo founded the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation in 2004 to address the underfunding of public elementary school libraries. Every year the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation grants $1.5 million to 20 high-needs elementary schools so they can transform their libraries with the purchase of new books and education resources. To date, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation's Literacy Fund has committed $15 million to 170 Canadian schools. The Foundation's annual grassroots Adopt a School program unites employees, customer, schools and their communities to raise funds to put even more books into the hands of children. Over the past five years we have raised over $2.7 million so 463,000 children have a book to call their own.
