MONTREAL, May 8, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Executive Chairman of the Board of Metro Inc., Mr. Pierre H. Lessard, is one of five Canadian business personalities inducted into the prestigious Canadian Business Hall of Fame at a Gala Dinner held tonight, May 8.
« Companions of the Order of the Business Hall of Fame represent and showcase the power of knowledge, entrepreneurship and drive to succeed », said Mr Stephen Ashworth, president and CEO, Junior Achievement. « The class of 2012 is no exception; like the four other inductees, Mr. Lessard was chosen for the significant contribution he has made to Canada's economy, its citizens and the inspiration that he has provided to the business community ».
Mr. Lessard began his career in the food industry over 40 years ago and joined Metro Inc. in 1990 as President and CEO. At the time, the company recorded annual sales of $2.2 billion. Today, Metro Inc. has annual sales of over $11 billion and over 65,000 employees. One of his many achievements with Metro Inc. was the acquisition of A&P Canada in 2005. He served on many Boards and took part in several fundraising campaigns for various institutions in the cultural, health and education sectors.
Canadian Business Hall of Fame
Established by Junior Achievement of Canada in 1979, the Canadian Business Hall of Fame and the Order of the Business Hall of Fame recognize and celebrate the lifetime achievements of Canada's most distinguished business leaders. Since it was created, over 165 Canadian business leaders have received this honour, the highest distinction awarded to Canadian business people. The year 2012 has produced the 34th class of the Order of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame.
