Pinewood Unveils Three New Sound Stages
Major expansion project in Toronto's Film, Television and Digital Media Hub
TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Pinewood Toronto Studios just became an even better place to make a movie --not to mention television! The company today unveiled three new state-of-the-art sound stages at its facility in Toronto, part of a $40-million expansion plan.
"These new stages represent yet another milestone in Toronto's thriving billion-dollar film and television industry," says Paul Bronfman, Chairman Pinewood Toronto Studios. "Pinewood is proud to be leading the way, supporting high quality jobs and stimulating economic activity in the province."
The expansion project is part of ongoing efforts to establish a cultural hub for film, television and digital media in Toronto's Port Lands. Pinewood Toronto Studios has developed a Film Studio District Evolution Plan, a blueprint for how the approximately 30 acres of land within the Film Studio District will act as a catalyst for investment and transform the area over the short-, medium-, and long-term.
"The new studios are a critical step in the development of the Film Studio District and will serve as a creative anchor to an emerging mixed-use waterfront neighborhood," said Alfredo Romano, Director, Pinewood Toronto Studios. "This plan will revitalize some of Toronto's most desirable lands and allow people to live, work and thrive in the same community."
The three new sound stages are 10,800 square feet each, and an additional 100,000 square feet of new office space is expected to be complete in 2015. In total, Pinewood Toronto Studios will feature almost 400,000 square feet of modern, purpose-built production facilities for film and television.
"These new sound stages will allow Pinewood to continue to do what we do best: attract domestic and international production to Toronto," said Blake Steels, President of Pinewood Toronto Studios. "We are thrilled to be able to meet demand from the industry for even more world-class facilities for smaller features, television series, and live television programming. We're looking forward to bringing greater investment to our city."
Pinewood Toronto Studios is located just outside the downtown core in the Port Lands, an area along Toronto's eastern waterfront that will soon experience major investment and revitalization. The studios will anchor an emerging waterfront neighbourhood, the Film Studio District.
