Players Paradise Sports Complex Inc. Closes Doors After Nine Years of Serving Hamilton and Surrounding Community
HAMILTON, ON, Aug. 28, 2018 /CNW/ - On October 31, 2018, Players Paradise Sports Complex Inc. will officially close its doors after nine years of proudly serving Hamilton and surrounding communities. The state-of-the-art indoor sports facility and event space that was privately owned and managed was honoured to host players, teams, coaches, families and schools, as well as other local businesses who participated in trade shows and events in the venue over the years.
The complex hosted many notable competitions and memorable community events, including the 2014 U14 Stoney Creek Girls Soccer Team who won Gold at Nationals led by Coach Paul Giannini, as well as Canadian Olympic Bobsled Pilot Nick Poloniato who trained out of the facility and qualified to compete at the Sochi Olympic Games. Players Paradise was the official indoor training centre of the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 2013 and 2014, where they qualified for the Grey Cup final both years. The facility also hosted Canada's largest Easter Egg Hunt each year with over 15,000 chocolate eggs and over 1,000 attendees, with all proceeds going to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hamilton.
"Players Paradise provided a place for sports to grow and for athletes to realize their full potential," said Tasha Mazza, President of Players Paradise Sports Complex Inc. "We personally want to thank all the parents, volunteers, coaches, administrative staff and sports enthusiasts who gave of their time, energy and love of the game. It was a pleasure serving all of you."
The complex was recently sold to a Toronto-based real estate investment firm who approached Players Paradise seeking an expansion facility, and they found that Players Paradise met many of the unique requirements for one of their investment companies: Green Relief Inc., an ACMPR licensed producer of medical cannabis. Players Paradise had initially hoped to sell the facility to the City of Hamilton or other sports organizations in order to continue programing; however, no offers were made by the desired prospects.
In order to adhere to the new owners' terms, it was required that existing tenants vacate the premises prior to taking possession; therefore, Players Paradise notified its tenants immediately and in accordance to its notice terms outlined in the lease agreements. Valuing the relationship with it tenants and organizations over the years, Players Paradise took initiative to actively reach out to other facilities and leagues to assist in placements for the soccer groups and teams that were currently hosted at the complex.
"I am honoured to have been part of the local sports community in Hamilton and to have worked alongside impactful organizations and businesses," said Mazza. "With the announcement of the Canadian Premier League Hamilton Soccer team coming Spring 2019, I believe it is an ideal time for the City of Hamilton to revisit doming the Tim Hortons field, which would make a great new home for soccer in Hamilton, given its ties from youth soccer to professional levels."
