PMC Statement on attack on Charlie Hebdo
TORONTO, Jan. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - The right to freedom of expression cannot be surrendered in the face of terrorism or oppression of any kind, Periodical Marketers of Canada said in a statement issued today.
"The attack on Charlie Hebdo is an attack on the roots of democracy. As an organization whose members are dedicated to the marketing of magazines, books, and newspapers through 40,000 retailers throughout Canada, PMC is saddened at the heartless assault that has taken place in Paris."
The statement noted that the attack has come on the eve of Canada's Freedom to Read Week, February 22-28.
"We urge all Canadians to be aware of and support the dedication of our country's media to the preservation of our freedoms from all forms of oppression," the statement added.
