POLICE CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR MISSING ORANGEVILLE WOMAN
UPDATE - POLICE APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC
ORANGEVILLE, ON, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - The ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Sonia VARASCHIN, which is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Pritchard of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is continuing today with searches being conducted throughout the Orangeville and surrounding area.
This morning, investigators working on this case are again appealing to the public to closely examine their properties for anything that may appear to be out of ordinary.
Rural property owners are also encouraged to check their properties for anything suspicious or out of place. If anything out of the ordinary is located, the police should be contacted immediately.
Investigators are also working to establish a timeline which may identify how Sonia VARASCHIN'S white Toyota Corolla came to be found behind the Orangeville Town Hall near Alexandria Park. If anyone saw this vehicle during the overnight or early morning hours between Sunday August 29 and Monday August 30, 2010, prior to 10:00AM, the Orangeville Police Tip Line (519) 941-2522, extension 2211 can be contacted and the specific details provided.
The police are reminding the media that, as with any investigation of this magnitude, there are countless hours of very detailed investigative work that is conducted which ultimately leads to rumours and speculative reports concerning the case being reported by "sources".
This morning there have been specific media reports surrounding the Spring Street residence of Sonia VARASCHIN which remains guarded by police. These reports have addressed certain specific issues concerning the residence that have not been provided to the media by anyone associated with the investigation. The investigators advise that these reports are erroneous and unsubstantiated.
Police will continue to provide the media with as much detail as possible surrounding the disappearance of Sonia VARASCHIN without compromising the integrity of this complex investigation.
Orangeville Police Chief Joseph Tomei said, "The continued support from the community and the calls to our Tip Line is of great assistance to our investigators. I encourage everyone who may have any information, no matter how small the detail, to call us. Someone out there holds the key to solving the disappearance of Sonia VARASCHIN."
