CALGARY, April 3, 2019 /CNW/ - Today, the Global Petroleum Show and Conference '2019 Election Dialogues' series, in partnership with dmg events and New West Public Affairs, released exclusive polling data from Janet Brown Opinion Research. According to the data, the UCP maintain a significant lead over the governing New Democrats across the province (53%) and in the battleground of Calgary (53%). The Alberta NDP maintain a 7-point lead in their stronghold of Edmonton (46%) and trail the rival UCP by more than 40 points in rural parts of the province.
"This data is very consistent with every poll I have conducted in the last 18 months," said Janet Brown. "The reason I think we are not seeing a big shift in voting intentions is because many Albertans are not yet actively engaged with this campaign, and those that are engaged are not hearing things that are changing their perspective".
Brown cautioned on other polls that have been released that show significant swings through the campaign period, "We've been down this road before in Alberta with polls that suggested big changes that never materialized. The media and pundit community needs to make it their job to adequately scrutinize all public polls and their methodologies."
The data was released alongside analysis and discussion from Global News host, Rob Breakenridge, Maclean's contributors, Jen Gerson and Jason Markusoff, pollster Janet Brown and New West Public Affairs Principal, Hon. Monte Solberg.
The media panel and release of the polling data was featured as a part of the Global Petroleum Show's '2019 Election Dialogue' series in the lead up to the Global Petroleum Show in June 2019.
"The GPS Election Dialogues provides a forum to discuss some of the most important issues facing Albertans and Canadians today," Nick Samain, Vice President dmg events noted. "Janet's poll shows that oil and gas issues and jobs continue to dominate the discussion in coffee shops and kitchen tables around Alberta. We look forward to taking the discussion further at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary."
"The Global Petroleum Show attracts more than 50,000 international and domestic oil and gas executives from over 21,000 companies," said New West Principal, Monte Solberg. "In addition to providing a venue for these businesses to showcase their work, this year's show will highlight the important work being done to advocate for the industry, the people who build their livelihood from it, the companies that power the world to new heights, and the innovators that make it a cleaner and safer place to live."
Hosted annually in Calgary, AB, the 51st Global Petroleum Show and Conference is Canada's largest trade show and conference. It runs from June 11-13, 2019. For more information and to register visit globalpetroleumshow.com
