TORONTO, Sept. 24, 2014 /CNW/ - Pollution Probe applauds the Government of Canada for announcing today new clean fuel and clean vehicle regulations. Building on existing rules that limit and reduce vehicle emissions that contribute to climate change and air pollution, the new regulations set an aggressive pace for significantly deeper emissions reductions into the future.
The actions announced today will contribute to improved air quality by requiring lower levels of sulphur in gasoline, and by requiring automakers to enhance emissions control systems on new passenger cars and light trucks. These new vehicles will also be required to incorporate technologies that significantly reduce fuel consumption, thus reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and saving drivers money at the pump. In today's announcement, Environment Canada also committed to developing new GHG emissions regulations for heavy-duty trucks.
"Pollution Probe has been actively engaged in consultations with Environment Canada, and we were pleased to attend today's announcement by Hon. Leona Aglukkaq, Federal Minister of Environment, in New York," says Bob Oliver, CEO of Pollution Probe. "We look forward to continuing to work with government and industry to support the implementation of effective policies that advance sustainable transportation solutions in Canada."
