MONTREAL, June 1, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Pomerleau, one of Canada's most innovative construction leaders and a pioneer in sustainable buildings and renewable energy, unveiled today the enhancement of its annual philanthropic program to address the needs of vulnerable populations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the Love is an essential service initiative, Pomerleau is donating over $600,000 to organizations that make a difference in the communities where Pomerleau is present across the country. Part of this amount includes personal donations by the two company owners, Pierre and Francis Pomerleau.
Giving back to our communities in tough times
The Love is an essential service initiative aims to enhance Pomerleau's philanthropic strategy to specifically help organizations working in health care, health research and food support for vulnerable populations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"As we are all deeply touched by the countless human and economic challenges caused by this historic pandemic, we wanted to continue the spirit of giving and goodwill of our community involvement," said Pierre Pomerleau, President and CEO. "This is where our love value truly resonates: for 50 years, and now more than ever, Pomerleau has been committed to the well-being and prosperity of the communities that have welcomed it. In today's environment, it was only natural for us to offer them our support through donations in addition to our generous annual philanthropic program," he added.
"We are extremely proud of the civic involvement and commitment of our entire team in this battle against COVID-19. We have seen many of our colleagues take the initiative to support their community by offering personal protective equipment or volunteering their time. Today, we are following in their footsteps to amplify our impact as a committed contractor. For us, that's showing love the Pomerleau way," explained Francis Pomerleau, Executive Chief - Talent, Culture and Leadership.
The following organizations will share the amount given by the company to support their pandemic relief efforts:
A virtual athletic challenge to complement the donations
The additional funds are strongly aligned with another tradition that Pomerleau holds dear. Every three years, Pomerleau hosts an athletic challenge for its employees, which includes raising funds for charities across Canada. This year's Challenge has been postponed and transformed into a virtual one. On May 14, employees in two teams started in opposite sides of the country to cover the distance separating Pomerleau's office in St. John's Newfoundland and its worksite in Victoria BC, by running, biking or doing any other fitness activity. For every kilometre completed, Pomerleau will donate $2.50 to its Love is an essential service campaign.
"Our employees have once again demonstrated their solidarity and determination to push their limits by accepting this challenge head on," said Pierre. "In fact, they are so competitive that we had to expand it from a Canadian to an around the world tour! I couldn't be prouder of their resilience and enthusiasm."
