Supporting local producers and sustainable shopping choices
CALGARY, July 15, 2015 /CNW/ - Calgary Co-operative Association Limited ("Calgary Co-op") is proud to support local growers and producers, and is committed to providing members greater access to locally-sourced products.
Following the successful launch of their Pop-up Farmers Markets in 2014, Calgary Co-op has announced their return with a schedule for 2015.
"Last year Calgary Co-op introduced Pop-up Farmers Markets to our members with a pilot program that was held at three locations," says Ken Woo, VP, Food Centre Operations and Merchandising. "The response was so overwhelming, we decided to offer these markets throughout the city this summer."
Calgary Co-op will be hosting Pop-Up Farmers Markets in the parking lots at 16 locations now until September. Each will feature 16-20 local producers selling freshly grown and freshly prepared foods.
"Our members are looking for access to new and classic foods that are locally produced," continued Woo. "With these Pop-up Farmers Markets, Calgary Co-op members have the opportunity to meet, speak with and purchase fresh products directly from the families who produce them."
The first Pop-up Farmers market will be held in the Beddington Co-op parking lot today, 8220 Centre Street NE. Each market will run from 3 – 7 pm:
July 15 - Beddington |
August 12 - Oakridge |
