TORONTO, Sept. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Porter Airlines is preparing for another year of service to Burlington, Vt., from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, beginning Dec. 15 until April 8. Four weekly roundtrip options are now available compared to two last season.
This is Porter's second year flying to Burlington, a popular destination for passengers looking to enjoy a season on the slopes.
"With convenient access to so many spectacular ski hills, it's not surprising Burlington received such a great response from our passengers in its inaugural season," said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. "We expect another successful year and many happy passengers eager to enjoy all of the outdoor adventure Vermont has to offer."
"We were confident that getting service to Toronto, North America's fastest growing city, would be a big win for Vermont tourism and economic development, but this route launch was one of the most successful in Porter's history and here we are announcing an expansion of the service," said Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin. "Getting this kind of service established is tough, with a lot of moving pieces like Customs and Border Protection. It was a terrific team effort to get this done."
Four weekly flights are available on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Between Dec. 15 and Jan. 6 flights will operate on Saturdays in place of Fridays.
"We are thrilled to continue and expand on the partnership between Porter and Vermont ski resorts with the upgrade to four weekly flights between Toronto and Burlington," said Parker Riehle, Vermont Ski Areas Association President. "It's a win-win situation for us all, and an opportunity to expand upon tourism, trade and investment between Vermont and Ontario."
"Vermont warmly welcomes its northern neighbours and has much to offer in the realm of world-class winter recreation," said Megan Smith, Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing Commissioner. "Our tourism economy also has much to gain from elevating this international relationship, and ease of entry, within a market that has a proven affinity for our brand."
Connecting flights to Burlington are available in Toronto for Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Sudbury, Windsor, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
Special Porter ski packages and shuttle bus service for Jay Peak, Smugglers' Notch Resort, Stowe Mountain Resort and Sugarbush Resort are available at www.skivermont.com/flyporter. Flight-only options are available for booking through travel agencies or www.flyporter.com.
