TORONTO, July 18, 2016 The votes are in and PortsToronto today announced the three winning movies that will screen at the sixth-annual Sail-in Cinema movie festival being held August 18-20 at Sugar Beach. From a shortlist of fifteen "Books to Big Screen" themed movies, the community was invited to vote for their favourite films in order to determine this year's line-up.
With close to 5,000 votes cast in less than four weeks this year's Sail-in Cinema will play host to lost boys, magical board games and fairytale romance on a four-story, two-sided, floating screen anchored in Lake Ontario. The winning movies and screening dates are as follows:
- Hook on Thursday, August 18
- Jumanji on Friday, August 19
- The Princess Bride on Saturday, August 20
"We are thrilled with the community's continued enthusiasm for Sail-In Cinema and the number of votes cast over the past four weeks to determine this year's winning line-up," said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. "With so many great movies to choose from under this year's theme of "Books to Big Screen," voters had to make some difficult decisions. This year's winning films – Hook, Jumanji and The Princess Bride – offer a great range of storylines and characters that promise to delight audiences experiencing or re-experiencing these favourites on the big screen. We look forward to welcoming the community down to the water's edge this summer for three magical evenings of film under the stars."
The free festival will once again offer the world's first two-sided floating movie experience of its size with this year's event promising a truly memorable cinematic experience with four Christie® 3DLP® cinema-quality HD projectors that will provide a dynamic and stunning film experience.
PortsToronto is pleased to have new and returning partners this year including Toyota, Redpath Sugar, Christie, CTV, the Toronto Star, Porter Airlines, aroma espresso bar, North American Logistics and The Waterfront BIA.
