Power restored to majority of customers
OTTAWA, Sept. 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Yesterday Hydro Ottawa's distribution system was significantly damaged by high winds, fallen trees and lightning. At its peak, Friday's storm knocked out power to 17,000 customers. Within hours, electrical service was restored to more than half of those affected.
Our crews have been working around the clock to restore power to numerous outages across the city. Today more than 50 field staff are actively working on restoration.
As of 4:30 p.m., 1,900 customers remain without power. The majority affected are in Bay Ward.
Hydro Ottawa estimates it will restore power to all major pockets this evening. Crews will continue working on outages affecting individual homes overnight and into tomorrow.
Hydro Ottawa initiated emergency response procedures immediately following the first storm Friday evening, and crews were deployed across the City on a priority basis, to ensure safety and restore the largest outages first.
Hydro Ottawa would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as restoration efforts continue.
