OTTAWA, Oct. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Prince Edward Island Premier Robert Ghiz, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, will lead a joint mission to China on October 29-30, 2014 to explore potential trade opportunities and foster collaborative relationships.
Premiers will lead a delegation of over 240 business and institutional leaders to further develop international relationships and facilitate potential growth in their economies. Business delegates from New Brunswick and Manitoba will also participate in the mission.
"I am honoured to be leading the third mission of Canada's Premiers to China, as well as the largest business delegation in the history of the Council of the Federation," said Prince Edward Island Premier Robert Ghiz, Chair of the Council of the Federation. "Working together to expand trade and further develop relations with China is an important priority of Canada's Premiers."
The mission will be an excellent opportunity to enhance the trade relationship between Canada's provinces and territories and China. China is Canada's second-largest trading partner. In 2013, Canada-China exports were valued at $20.5 billion and imports were valued at $52.7 billion.
Premiers and delegates will visit Beijing on October 29-30. They will attend meetings with Chinese government officials, and participate in events being organized by the Canada-China Business Council.
Previous missions by Canada's Premiers to China took place in 2008 and 2012.
The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships between governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
