EDMONTON, Jan. 18, 2018 /CNW/ - Chartwell Retirement Residences unveils plans and breaks ground for Chartwell Wescott, a new retirement residence located in the refined area of Ambleside in the Windermere neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton.
Chartwell Wescott will be a three-storey retirement residence featuring 137 spacious and bright suites, conveniently located off Allan Drive and close to numerous shops and services, including restaurants, grocery stores, medical offices and pharmacies. Chartwell Wescott will reflect a prairie-style design, complement the surrounding nature and offer a wide-range of amenities to residents.
The retirement complex represents an investment of $48 million dollars with construction expected to employ a total of 150 people. Approximately 45 permanent jobs will be created once the property is fully operational. With occupancy scheduled to take place in winter 2019, the residence will offer a maintenance-free, adult lifestyle. Located in the sophisticated and rapidly-growing area of Ambleside in the Windermere neighbourhood, the enviable location combines beautiful natural surroundings with the convenience of easy access to a number of local amenities and services in Terwillegar and Riverbend. There are many medical and recreational facilities located nearby, as well as places of worship, ever-expanding shopping, casual and fine dining, and entertainment opportunities. Tree-lined boulevards, lush parks with walking paths and ponds are also lovely features of our community.

Chartwell Wescott will respond to the needs of its community: according to the City of Edmonton's Age Friendly Edmonton report, "there isn't enough room in seniors accommodations for today's Edmontonians over 65, let alone tomorrow's. And fewer seniors than ever want to be in traditional lodging." In Edmonton, demographic changes mean there are more than 162,000 seniors in the city, according to the 2016 census. Their needs are changing and they are looking for new residential options, enhanced lifestyle experiences and flexible, convenient services.
"Chartwell Wescott will help serve the growing requirement for new, non-traditional but socially enhancing accommodation in South Edmonton," says Maxime Camerlain, Vice President, Real Estate Integration. "As Canada's largest retirement living operator, our mission at Chartwell is to provide seniors with a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life experience."
