MONTRÉAL, July 5, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ -
Parade: July 6, 2019 from noon to 2 pm
Festival at Jeanne-Mance park: July 6, 2pm to 9pm // July 7, 1pm to 8pm
A joyful two-day annual event for the entire family will take place this summer at Jeanne-Mance Park, preceded by a parade on St. Laurent boulevard (starting from the corner of Milton).
Organized with the collaboration of: South Asian Alliance of Quebec, Festival of India (Quebec) and International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Montreal).
During the parade, 10 different Montreal ethnic groups will be representing their unique communities through their music and dance and traditional clothing. The parade will be followed by a trolley named 'Ratha Yatra' - a huge 40-foot chariot, which is pulled by the participants in the midst of Indian songs, mantras and dances. The procession will be inaugurated by High Commissioner of India Mr. Vikas Swarup, and all are cordially invited to join this parade, pull the chariot, and celebrate unity in diversity theme of the event. After the arrival of the parade at Jeanne-Mance Park, the festivities will then continue for the two days. There the participants will be able to enjoy: all-day musical and dance performances - a South Asian souvenir corner – henna and face painting - dance workshops and yoga workshops (presented by Daana) – also kids area with clown and magic shows. The abundant traditional wisdom of India is also available in the many kiosks and elaborate exhibits. Also a FREE VEGETARIAN MEAL is served to everyone during the event. Several non-profit organizations and associations registered in Quebec to create and promote the traditional culture of India have made this event possible. We thank the City of Montreal for their valuable support as part of "Programme de soutien à la diversité des expressions culturelles – festivals et événements". We all believe that India has many gifts to share with the world through its millennial culture, from which 3 salient values are hopefully promoted at this festival:
- Unity in Diversity: Mutual understanding
- Message of peace: Ancient insights on Peaceful Living
- "Higher Taste": benefits of a healthy lifestyle through positive action
Through this unique festival, we hope to offer a venue for a rich multicultural exchange that can contribute towards more unity, awareness and social coherence between the different South Asian communities and the residents of greater Montreal.
