MONTREAL, April 23 /CNW Telbec/ - The Leader of the Official Opposition, Louise Harel, deplores the obstinacy of Projet Montréal as they insist on holding a quick vote on the motion for the conservation and protection of the Meadowbrook green space and the Little St. Pierre River. The Associate Leader in chamber of the Official Opposition, Elaine Ayotte, proposed that a vote on the motion be postponed until the next Council meeting on May 17, so that a real democratic debate could take place.
"Rather than postpone the motion, Projet Montréal's Councillors have deliberately chosen to undermine it," said Louise Harel. "Ms. Ayotte has argued that the developer should make a presentation on the project, and that we should hear reactions from Les Amis de Meadowbrook. Richard Bergeron refused to delay the vote and has instead imposed an immediate vote, which he knows will defeat the motion. Rather than supporting the conservation and protection of Meadowbrook, Bergeron has sided with the partisan interests of Projet Montréal," she said.
