WINNIPEG, Nov. 7, 2013 /CNW/ - President's Choice® Children's Charity announced more than $500K in funding this week to two Manitoba charities -- Children's Rehabilitation Foundation™ and Breakfast for Learning. The funding will provide healthy meals and snacks for more than 9,200 kids each day during the 2013/2014 school year, including 15 Aboriginal school programs, as well as help families whose children have physical or developmental disabilities.
The gift ceremonies took place on Tuesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 7 at the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation and Niji Mahkwa School, respectfully, located in Winnipeg in an enthusiastic atmosphere, in the presence of students and teachers, as well as Real Canadian Superstore® and Extra Foods® employees and friends of the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation™ and Breakfast for Learning.
The gift presentations were made by President's Choice® Children's Charity's Executive Director, Peggy Hornell.

Christine Schollenberg, Executive Director, Children's Rehabilitation Foundation attended the ceremony on Tuesday to accept the $250,000 gift on behalf of the charity.

One hundred percent of this grant will be used to specialized purchase equipment for Manitoba's children living with disabilities and special needs, such as wheelchairs, communication devices and modified bikes. Daniella DeMare, Provincial Coordinator was present at the ceremony on Thursday to accept the $239,560 gift on behalf of Breakfast for Learning.
"Children who are well fed learn better and have an improved chance of success in school. President's Choice Children's Charity's generous support will allow us to feed thousands of children through school nutrition programs across Manitoba."
Additional funding was also given to Boys and Girls Club of Canada for after-school healthy snacks and nutritional education for Clubs across the province.
Following both gift ceremonies the special guests, friends, students and teachers of Children's Rehabilitation Foundation and Breakfast for Learning were treated to a healthy President's Choice® snacks before returning to their busy day.
One hundred per cent of funds raised for President's Choice® Children's Charity by Loblaw banner stores like Your Independent GrocerTM, Real Canadian Superstore®, Real Canadian Wholesale Club®, Extra Foods® and nofrills® go directly to helping kids in communities across Manitoba. In 2012, the Charity awarded $13 million, supporting more than 283,000 children across Canada.
