Press Conference Tomorrow - Union Action on ACA Lay-offs

HALIFAX , Dec. 8 /CNW/ - The CAW will update the media on how the union will be responding to the lay-off of 96 CAW members at ACA Co-operative in New Minas at a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10 a.m.

Next steps could include possible legal action. This will also be an opportunity to hear from workers who will lose their jobs as a result of the sudden and ill-timed lay-off.

And two workers from ACA who stand to lose their jobs as of this Friday.

ACA Co-operative announced suddenly the lay-off of 110 people on November 30 , which will come into effect on December 11 . The same company also closed its Kentville operations last January, despite massive public outcry.

The union has been in negotiations with ACA since September in an effort to reach a new collective agreement - the current collective expires in March 2010 .
