Press release No. 2 - By-elections of November 9, 2015 in Beauce-Sud, Fabre, René-Lévesque and Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne - Voting by mail for electors who are temporarily absent from Québec Français
QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 7, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Pierre Reid, wishes to inform electors from the electoral divisions of Beauce-Sud, Fabre, René-Lévesque and Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne that they may register to vote by mail in anticipation of the November 9 by-elections. Electors concerned by this measure have been temporarily outside Québec for a period of two years or less and intend to return to Québec. Therefore, electors who expect to be outside Québec on election day (November 9, 2015), during advance polling (November 1 and 2, 2015), and will be unable to vote at the office of the returning officer on any of the following five days, October 30 and 31 and November 3, 4 and 5, 2015, will be able to vote by mail, provided that they are registered on the list of electors outside Québec.
It is possible to consult the Chief Electoral Officer's website to obtain more information or to register online. Applications must be received at the offices of Elections Québec by midnight of October 21, at the latest.
Exceptions
It should be noted that the period of two years or less does not apply to electors posted outside Québec by the following employers: the government of Québec, the government of Canada, or any international agency or organization of which Québec or Canada is a member and to which one or the other pays a contribution. Nor does the aforementioned time frame apply to the spouse of the elector concerned, nor to persons in his or her care, if the latter are qualified electors. Electors posted outside Québec must provide, among other documents, a certificate attesting to their posting outside Québec.
Mr. Reid wishes to remind all concerned that electors having left Québec within a period of two years or less may at any time register in order to vote by mail during a general election, by-election, or referendum.
