Primary Energy Appoints Former Dofasco CEO to its Board
OAK BROOK, IL, April 6 /CNW/ - Primary Energy Recycling Corporation (TSX: PRI), a clean energy company that generates revenue from capturing and recycling waste energy from industrial processes, today announced the appointment of Mr. Don Pether, current Chair of the Board of McMaster University and former CEO and Chair of Dofasco Inc., to the Company's Board of Directors. During his tenure at Dofasco, the company earned a reputation as a premier North American steel company.
"Don's breadth of steel industry and steel production experience, his insights as electric utility board member and his knowledge of energy intensive related operations, will be invaluable to the Board and the Company," said Mr. Michel Lavigne, Chair of the Board of Directors of Primary Energy Recycling. "Additionally, Don's leadership will be important to Primary Energy as the Company moves forward to capitalize on its strong financial foundation, and as it refines its strategy consistent with the macro economic trends toward the utilization of clean energy alternatives."
From 2003 to 2006, Mr. Pether served as President and CEO of steel manufacturer Dofasco prior to the company's acquisition by ArcelorMittal. He was appointed Chair of Dofasco in 2006, before retiring in 2007. Mr. Pether joined Dofasco in 1970 and subsequently held various key roles including Plant Metallurgist, General Sales Manager, Vice President - Commercial, Executive Vice President Dofasco Inc. and General Manager Dofasco Hamilton, and President and Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Pether has held leadership roles with several steel industry-related associations, including past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Steel Producers Association, and past Vice-Chair of the American Iron and Steel Institute. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of packaging and metal processing company Samuel Manu-Tech Inc. and Emera Inc., an energy services, infrastructure and utility company with assets in United States, Canada and the Caribbean. He is also a former trustee of the Fording Canadian Coal Trust Board.
Mr. Pether holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a Honourary Doctorate of Laws from McMaster University.
