Privacy breach: Desjardins Group rolls out additional ways to sign up for the Equifax credit monitoring plan

MONTREAL, July 5, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Desjardins announced that it is rolling out solutions to help members facing long wait times when signing up for the Equifax credit monitoring plan. Desjardins also wants to reiterate that members' assets and accounts are protected: if there is fraudulent activity on their accounts, they will be reimbursed. 

Over the last few days, Desjardins has been working closely with Equifax to help the credit monitoring company improve capacity for the sign-up process on its website and simplify authentication procedures. 

"We've noted that since Thursday, July 4, more and more members have been able to sign up on Equifax's website," said Guy Cormier, President and CEO of Desjardins Group. "Equifax's online sign-up process is the best option. If members are still having difficulty with the online process, they can use the alternative solutions we'll be rolling out next week." 

Starting Monday, July 8, members will be able to call 1-800-CAISSES (1-800-224-7737) to activate their credit monitoring plan, if they're having problems signing up online or over the phone with Equifax. By the middle of next week, members will also have the option of signing up through AccèsD online or on the mobile app. 

"I want to reassure all our members. If they sign up for the plan through Desjardins they'll immediately be covered by identity theft insurance and have access to assistance services," President Cormier said. 

Guy Cormier also announced that Desjardins is currently working on a permanent solution for the digital era to help protect all members. Details will be announced later. 

The privacy breach only involves Desjardins caisse members who use Desjardins banking services in Quebec and Ontario. Clients who only have Desjardins insurance products, for example, are not affected.
