Private Broadcasters pleased with Progress on Bill C-32
OTTAWA, Nov. 2 /CNW/ - Canada's private broadcasters congratulate Parliament on the tabling of the Copyright Bill in the House of Commons today for second reading. Bill C-32 is an important and necessary piece of legislation that has been long anticipated by a broad range of stakeholders, including broadcasters.
Private broadcasters have long been calling for changes to the Copyright Act that would encourage innovation, support Canada's creative community, create jobs and facilitate the growth and development of cultural industries. Bill C-32 takes some important steps towards making Canada's copyright laws work for all stakeholders, including creators and innovative businesses.
The introduction of this Bill and the steps taken today to move it through the Parliamentary process are evidence that this Government is committed to modernizing Canada's copyright laws in a balanced manner to make them work in a digital economy. Private broadcasters will continue to be engaged in the process over the coming weeks and months as all political parties work together to ensure the Copyright Act is relevant in today's digitally driven Canada.
